Dr Billy Tan

Dr Billy Tan, a founding partner of Ophthalmic Consultants is a respected surgeon in the surgical treatment of diseases of the vitreous and retina. He is a Consultant Eye Surgeon subspecialising in vitreo-retinal surgery and cataract at Ophthalmic Consultants at the Gleneagles Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

After graduating from the University of Singapore in 1981, Dr Tan went on to pursue his specialist training in Ophthalmology and subsequently subspecialty training in Diseases and Surgery of the Vitreous and Retina at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, Australia on a Singapore Government Scholarship. Upon his return, he worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre before leaving to set up OC in 1995.

Beneath his casual exterior lies a skillful and meticulous surgeon, whose views are widely respected by his peers. During a time when subspecialty practice in public institutions in Singapore was very much in its infancy, Dr Tan was invited back in 2001 to be the Head of the Surgical Retina Service of the Eye Institute, National Healthcare Group, a position he held till 2006. He also sat on the Medical Advisory Board of the Mount Elizabeth Hospital from 2005-2007 and was the Honourary Treasurer of the College of Surgeons, Singapore from 2006-2008. He is currently on the Gleneagles Medical Advisory Board and has been the Chairman of the Credentials Committee since 2010.
