Dr Esther Fu

MBBS (S’pore), FRCS (Glasgow), FRCOphth (UK), FAMS (Ophthalmology)

Dr Esther Fu is a key member of Ophthalmic Consultants and was instrumental in steering Ophthalmic Consultants to where it is today. She is a Consultant Eye Surgeon subspecialising in cataract surgery and neuro-ophthalmology at Ophthalmic Consultants at the Gleneagles Medical Centre and a Visiting Consultant to the Singapore National Eye Centre and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Dr Esther Fu completed her medical degree at the NUS in 1983. She received scholarships from the Singapore Government to pursue her specialist training at the University of Glasgow in Scotland, UK and her subspecialty training in neuro-ophthalmology at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion, University of Edinburgh and the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases, Queensquare, UK. Upon her return, she worked as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at the Singapore National Eye Centre and was a Clinical Teacher at the National University of Singapore before leaving to join Ophthalmic Consultants.

Neuro-ophthalmology, a subspecialty of both neurology and ophthalmology, requires specialised training and expertise in problems of the eye, brain, nerves and muscles. Therefore, it is not surprising that Dr Esther Fu sees referrals from other eye doctors when faced with seemingly irresolvable vision loss, double vision and eye movement disorders.
