Dr Jacob Chin Yu Hang

Dr Jacob Chin is an Eye Surgeon (Ophthalmologist) practicing at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, Singapore. His surgical subspecialty interests include cataracts, surgical retina and medical retina.

Dr Chin completed his undergraduate medical training at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2010. He obtained his Masters of Medicine in Ophthalmology in 2016, and completed his Ophthalmology specialist training in 2018. He has obtained and is currently a fellow with the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) and Academy of Medicine, Singapore (FAMS).

He then completed his first Clinical Fellowship in Medical and Surgical Retina in NHGEI, Department of Ophthalmology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital (Singapore) in 2020. In 2023, he undertook a second 6 month vitreoretinal fellowship at Yokohama City University with Professor Kazuaki Kadonosono to advance his proficiency in complex vitreoretinal surgery, and observership with Professor Yamane for intrascleral intraocular lens fixation.

Dr Chin maintains expertise encompassing complex cataract, retinal detachment, macula pathology (epiretinal membrane - ERM, full thickness macular hole - FTMH), including complications of high myopia (myopic traction maculopathy - MTM), diabetic retinal disease, medical retina (age related macular degeneration - ARMD, retinal vein occlusion - RVO) and has been trained in general comprehensive ophthalmology.

Dr Chin is active in clinical research, having presented in many conferences both locally and internationally as an invited speaker, and has published internationally. He was awarded First Prize for oral paper presentation (Junior Category), at the National Ophthalmology Residents Research Day (Singapore) in 2015.

Dr Chin formerly served as Head, Information Technology and Electronic Medical Records for Tan Tock Seng Hospital eye department, and continues to contribute as a visiting consultant ophthalmologist for the National Health Care Group Eye Institute.

Dr Chin is fluent in English and Mandarin. He is married with 3 children and enjoys pickleball with friends and family.
